"My starting point is nature, usually the landscape. It provides the framework within which I explore those things that interest me, especially light, shadow, and the rhythms of the
natural world. Because I believe that making art is a process of abstraction, I am
fascinated by the elements that make up the artist's language - colour, line, shape, form
and texture. For a painting to work, all of those elements must come into play, and
although the subject is never irrelevant, it is secondary to the visual impact of the paint surface as a sensual and enjoyable experience."
